2005 SDRA Gold Medallion Awards: Restaurateurs Honor Their Peers At Biggest GMA Banquet Ever
Well over 1,000 restaurant owners, employees, purveyors and their guests filled the Town and Country Resort's Convention Center last month for the 21st Annual Gold Medallion Awards Banquet. The gala event is one of the major projects of the Special Events Committee of the San Diego Restaurant Association, the local chapter of the California Restaurant Association.
It was a big night for Kipp Downing, as he took home the prestigious Restaurateur of the Year Award and the Best Seafood Fine Dining Award for his beautiful Pacifica Del Mar restaurant in North County.
Kipp, who also operates Pacifica Breeze Cafe in Del Mar and Pacifica Seafood Restaurant in Palm Desert, was recognized by his peers for all his involvement and contributions to the local restaurant biz. He's been a hard-working leader in San Diego's dining scene, starting out as an original partner in Cafe Pacifica and Pacifica Grill. He opened Pacifica Del Mar (atop Del Mar Plaza) in 1989 and turned it into one of the top restaurants in the county, where fantastic coastal views add to the pleasures of a menu of exquisite seafood and creative coastal cuisine.
